In gastric bypass operations, a large part of the stomach is bypassed, a small volume (about 30-50 cc) of the stomach is prepared as a pouch and sutured to the small intestine. In this operation, as in other obesity surgery surgeries, it is aimed to reduce the volume of the stomach and to disable some of the intestines and get rid of some of the foods consumed without being absorbed into the body. Thus, with less food intake, patients feel full and only a part of the food taken is absorbed into the body.
After surgery, patients can easily feel full after a small amount of food intake and after a while, this feeling of satiety turns into a loss of appetite. Total food intake is significantly reduced. Depending on the small size of the newly formed stomach and reduced food absorption, the instructions of the surgeon and the nutritionist should be followed for the use of the necessary vitamin and mineral supplements. Thus, the patient can lose weight without loss of vitamins and minerals. Patients are sent home three or four days after surgery.
